Matt Devine is an American contemporary sculptor whose work transforms steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and bronze into graceful abstract forms that explore movement, balance, and the rhythms of the natural world. Through refined compositions of line, light, and negative space, his sculptures challenge the perceived weight of metal, creating works that feel open, fluid, and quietly alive.

Raised in New England, Devine moved to California in 1995, where he learned welding and metal fabrication while working alongside his father. What began as a foundation in craftsmanship evolved into a sculptural practice defined by technical precision and a deep sensitivity to form. Drawing inspiration from birds in flight, changing landscapes, and the patterns found throughout nature, Devine distills these observations into sculptures that invite moments of reflection, optimism, and connection.

Since establishing his full-time studio practice in 2004, Devine has exhibited extensively throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. His work has been featured in solo exhibitions at the Oceanside Museum of Art and the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles, as well as international exhibitions including The Living Chorus in Shenzhen, China. His sculptures have been commissioned for leading public, corporate, hospitality, and residential spaces, including Tom Ford London, Ritz-Carlton Residences, Nobu Restaurants, Marriott Hotels, Morgan Stanley, and Stanford Medicine. Monumental works are permanently installed in public spaces throughout the United States, while his sculptures are held in museum, corporate, and private collections around the world.

A recipient of the Ford Family Foundation Visual Artist Grant and the Oregon Arts Commission Artist Opportunity Grant, Devine has earned recognition for a practice that bridges contemporary sculpture, architecture, and the natural environment. His work is represented by galleries across the United States and internationally.

Surrounded by fields, forests, and wetlands, he continues to draw inspiration from the landscape that has become both his home and the enduring source of his artistic vision. Devine lives and works with his wife and daughter on their farm outside Portland, Oregon.
